Doctor Who remastered missing episodes available exclusively via iTunes

Yesterday, we reported that long-missing Doctor Who episodes had been recovered, and would be remastered and made available for viewing. Two of the stories — The Enemy of the World and The Web of Fear — are now available as an iTunes exclusive. Of the episodes that have been discovered, nine of them are said to have been hidden for the past 46 years. The Enemy of the World is a six-episode story that aired back in 1967 on the BBC. With this story comes the Second Doctor, Patrick Troughton, as well as Victoria and Jamie. All six episodes have been recovered and remastered, and were previously missing from the BBC's Archive before being discovered in Nigeria by Philip Morris. The Web of Fear, meanwhile, is also a six-episode story that aired in 1968 on the BBC. The second through sixth episodes have been lost for decades, and of them all but episode three has been recovered and made available. Unfortunately, the third episode is still missing, and so a filler has been made from 37 still images and the audio from the original episode to fill the gap.

Said Television International Enterprises Archive director Philip Morris: "The tapes had been left gathering dust in a store room at a television relay station in Nigeria. I remember wiping the dust off the masking tape on the canisters and my heart missed a beat as I saw the words 'Doctor Who'. When I read the story code I realized I'd found something pretty special."

Twenty-seven stories remain missing or incomplete.
