Disney brings Aladdin and other 16-bit classics to PC, Mac, and Linux

If you're like me and grew up in the 16-bit era of video games, then you'll probably remember Disney's collection of platformers fondly. Those games not only showed that good movie tie-ins can exist, but also what good platformers are made of. Make no mistake: Disney definitely had a hot streak back in the mid-90s, and now through its partnership with GOG.com, we can relive a few of those memories on PC.

GOG announced today that Aladdin, The Jungle Book, and The Lion King are now all available through its store. They're coming to us relatively untouched too – aside from added controller support and a few updates to make them compatible with modern day operating systems, Disney and GOG haven't made many changes to these games.

As an added bonus, Windows users aren't the only ones who get to enjoy some classic platforming action, as these games also come with support for Mac and Linux. Perhaps most importantly, being offered through GOG.com means there's no DRM to worry about, which is always a plus.

However, taking a trip down memory lane is going to cost a fair amount, with Disney and GOG popping a $10 price tag on each game. Right now the games are each on sale for 10% off, but if you're looking to pick up all three you can save a bit more, as GOG is offering a launch bundle that includes the three titles for a grand total of $20.

If you missed out on these titles the first time around – or missed out on the 16-bit era entirely and want to see what games were like during the golden age of platformers – their GOG releases are definitely worth a look. Aladdin and The Lion King were two of my favorites on the Sega Genesis (it is the Genesis version of Aladdin that's launching here, by the way) and I still like to take them for a spin from time-to-time. If you want to pick up the bundle, you'll need to be quick, because GOG is only offering it until August 8.
