Disney adds Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey to board of directors

There's nothing quite like adding a major hand in the current technology scene to your board of directors – and this week, Disney's done just that. Jack Dorsey, cofounder of both Twitter and Square, has been added to the Disney board of directors this week, suggesting that he's both honored and humbled to do so: "Disney is a timeless company, one we all grow up learning from and admiring."

It is Dorsey's vast knowledge of the way the current technology and social networking universe functions that Disney desires. Suggesting that they recognize Dorsey's helping in the creation of "groundbreaking new businesses in the social media and commerce spaces, Disney made clear their happiness to bring Dorsey aboard.

"The perspective he brings to Disney and its Board is extremely valuable, given our strategic priorities, which include utilizing the latest technologies and platforms to reach more people and to enhance the relationship we have with our customers." – Robert A. Iger, Disney's chairman and chief executive officer

This season also marks the end of the 15-year service of Judith L. Estrin. Estrin also co-founded a number of technology companies over the past couple of decades and served as CTO and senior vice president of Cisco Systems Inc. – it's clear to see that they'd have needed a technology head to replace her in some way or another here at the end of her appointment. Dorsey appears to be just the fellow.

Have a peek at a few recent bits and pieces in the Disney archive below. You'll find that as the company moves forward and continues to ride alongside the biggest and best in the technology ecosystem today, it's truly a small world after all – who's next, Zuckerberg?
