Plastic Logic flexible e-newspaper set for 2009 launch

Electronic versions of newspapers aren't new, and neither are e-books, but Plastic Logic's so-far unnamed entrance to the market certainly brings a fresh dose of style.  Larger than e-book-du-jour the Amazon Kindle, the Plastic Logic device has an 8.5 x 11-inch display and uses gestures for control rather than a flood of unintuitive buttons.

Unlike other devices, however, there should be even more flexibility in the Plastic Logic e-newspaper – not least because it s made from a plastic substrate that can be bent and twisted without damage.  Content will be loaded either via wired or wireless connection, and while specific memory isn't mentioned quotes capacity for thousands of documents.  Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint files, together with PDFs, will all be compatible.

Plastic Logic are promising further information – and maybe even a name – for the e-newspaper at CES 2009, together with a roster of news agencies and publishers interested in getting their content onto the device.  No confirmation on pricing, only the vague assertion that it will "be competitively priced" in the market when it goes on sale in the first half of 2009.
