Devil May Cry HD Collection lands next year

It's hard to believe that the Devil May Cry series turned 16 years old this year. What started back in 2001 with the release of the original Devil May Cry on the PlayStation has grown into a long-running franchise that has attracted a lot of fans over the years. If you've yet to experience the chaos that are the Devil May Cry games (or you simply want to play them again), you might want to check out the Devil May Cry HD Collection, which is landing on modern platforms next year.

Capcom announced the release today over on its Capcom-Unity blog. Longtime fans of the series will know that this isn't the first Devil May Cry HD Collection to come along, as Capcom also released one in 2012. Indeed, this seems to be the same HD Collection, only made to run on modern hardware.

At the very least, that means 60 frames per second gameplay. Though Capcom doesn't talk about resolution in its announcement, it seems safe to assume support for 1080p, given both the power of modern hardware and the fact that Capcom is sharing 1080p screenshots. Other than that, though, don't expect much in the way of upgrades, as most of the textures seem to be similar in quality to their original releases.

Still, even without drastic upgrades, this should be a must-have for Devil May Cry fans. The Collection offers the first three games in the series: Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, and Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition. That means no Devil May Cry 4 or DmC, but in general, it seems that the initial trilogy comprises the games fans look back on most fondly anyway.

If this announcement gets you hyped, then good news: you've only got about four months left to wait before it launches. Devil May Cry HD Collection will come to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on March 18, 2017. Will you be picking it up? Head down to the comments section and let us know!
