Detective Pikachu, Outlast 2 hit Nintendo eShop this week

Today is a big day for the Nintendo eShop, but not for the reasons you might initially expect. While we're used to seeing the Switch get a lot of love in each week's eShop update, this week it's arguably the 3DS that's getting the bigger releases. That's all thanks to a famous electric rodent who's not only starring in his own game, but also gaining a voice.

Yes, we've nearly arrived at the launch date for Detective Pikachu, a little game that took many of us by surprise. In it, you'll play as a kid named Tim Goodman, who teams up with a talking Pikachu to solve mysteries around his hometown of Ryme City. It's definitely a strange off-shoot for the Pokemon franchise, but it could be a game worth playing nonetheless.

Over on Switch, we can look forward to a port of Outlast 2, which is quickly following on the heels of the original Outlast. With this launch, the Outlast series is now complete on the Switch, so if you've been craving some portable jump scares, you'll definitely want to have a look at this. Here's the full list of Switch and 3DS games hitting the eShop over the course of the next week.

So, aside from the launches of Outlast 2 on Switch and Detective Pikachu on the 3DS, it's a fairly silent week on the Nintendo eShop. It won't be that way forever, though, as there was a slew of new indie titles announced for the Switch earlier this week. Many of the games revealed during Nintendo's latest Nindies Showcase will be here in the first half of 2018, so there are definitely some awesome looking games on the way to the Switch eShop very soon.

It'll be interesting to see the critical and commercial reception for Detective Pikachu. Even within the Pokemon franchise, which is comprised of dozens of games across multiple genres, we've never seen anything quite like Detective Pikachu before. We'll see how people like it soon enough, as the game launches tomorrow, but in the meantime, head down to the comments section and let us know if you're looking forward to Detective Pikachu.
