Denon HEOS wireless multi-room audio system upgrade supports high-res audio files

Back in 2014, Denon rolled out the HEOS wireless multi-room audio system for the first time. Denon has announced that it is now making a major upgrade to the HEOS wireless system to meet the evolving consumer demands in the wireless multi-room audio segment. The HEOS family of audio speakers now supports Bluetooth accessibility.

The addition of Bluetooth gives users the choice of using WiFi networks or Bluetooth to stream music to the speakers. The big update is that the HEOS system now supports high-resolution audio files with support for uncompressed WAV, ALAC, and FLAC music files up to 24-bit/192 kHz over a wireless network or via a USB drive.

Denon also plans to add support for DSD and AIFF audio tracks. HEOS now uses an ARM A9 1.25GHz processor with 512 MB of flash storage combined with 256MB of RAM. The HEOS rage includes a WiFi extender, indoor/outdoor speaker, sound bar, and subwoofer. A pre-amp, amp, and whole home multi-zone amp are also part of the range. The HEOS product line also supports streaming music services like Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn, Rhapsody, iHeart Radio, TIDAL, SiriusXM, Soundlocud, and Amazon Music. Music can also be streamed from smart devices, PCs, Macs, and NAS drives.

"We are pleased to introduce this new upgrade to our HEOS platform that brings high resolution audio playback, built in Bluetooth, and a significant increase in processing power that will intensify performance and support new features that we can't wait to bring to the HEOS family!" said Brendon Stead, SVP product development at Denon. "Consumers are embracing our HEOS line of products, and we are looking forward to making the platform even better with new software features."
