Dell and Alienware go all-in on 8th Gen Core laptops and AIOs

Dell and Alienware have gone all-in on Intel's freshly-announced 8th Gen Core i9, i7, and i5 chips, with a revamped range of laptops, 2-in-1s, all-in-one PCs, and desktops. In laptops, the flagship Dell XPS 15 gets 6-core 8th Generation Intel Core processors and up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti graphics. A 15.6-inch 4K Ultra HD touchscreen is offered, and there's Windows Hello, optional fingerprint recognition, and Thunderbolt 3. It'll be up for preorder on April 15, starting at $999.99.

If you need a convertible, meanwhile, the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 will be from $1,299.99. It too has a 4K touchscreen display, and will now come in a new brushed onyx finish alongside the original silver. For the same price, you can have the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 2-in-1 Special Edition, which has Core i7 processors, a 4K touchscreen, 16GB of RAM, NVIDIA MX130 graphics, a Dell Active Pen, and an abyss black finish.

If gaming is your bag, there are new Alienware and Dell machines with the fresh chips. The Alienware 15 and 17 are available from today, priced from $2,399.99 and $3,699.99 respectively. Each offer up to 6-core Core i5, i7, and i9 processors, and overclocking to as much as 5.0 GHz.

Meanwhile, there's also new cooling technology to deal with the excess heat that produces. Alienware used 50-percent thinner fan blades along with a vapor chamber for the CPU. The result, the company claims, is a 10-percent improvement in performance versus the old versions of the Alienware 15 and 17, but without setting your lap on fire. If you don't need the maximum specs, there'll be cheaper configurations from April 10, starting at $1,449.99 for the 15-inch and $1,599.99 for the 17-inch.

Over on the Dell side, there are new Dell G3 15 and 17 notebooks, priced from $749.99 and $1,099.99 respectively. They get up to Core i7 chips, missing out on the Core i9, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics as standard. 1060 Max-Q graphics are optional. They'll be the thinnest of Dell's gaming laptops so far.

If you really want the Core i9 and the Dell logo, though, you'll need the Dell G7 15. That – and the Dell G5 15, which tops out at the Core i7 – packs NVIDIA GTX 1060 graphics with 6GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory. It also fits in dual drives with SSD options, and an optional 3840 x 2160 display on the G7 15. The G7 15 will be priced from $1,099.99, while the G5 15 will arrive midway through the month from $949.99.

Then there are the desktop machines. Dell has multiple new Inspiron all-in-one PCs, kicking off with the Inspiron 22 and 24 3000 AIOs with up to Core i7 processors, up to 16GB of RAM, and optional NVIDIA GeForce MX110 graphics. They're priced from $399.99.

If you need more, the Inspiron 27 7000 AIOs and Inspiron 24 5000 AIOs will be priced from $849.99 and $999.99. The extra cash gets you optional NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics: the 27-inch model has a 4K display, while the 23.8-inch version has a Full HD display.

Finally, there are some new monitors to match the updated PCs. The Dell S Family come in 23-, 24-, and 27-inch sizes, include dual 5W speakers, and dual HDMI inputs. They're priced between $199.99 and $239.99 depending on size.
