Consumer Reports lists top five smartphones with best battery life

It doesn't matter how cool a smartphone is, how many features it offers, or how fantastic the screen looks, if it runs out of power too fast it's a worthless device. Consumer Reports has put together a list of the smartphones with the best battery life. The list consists of five devices with a few on the list offering removable batteries so you can carry spares just in case.

Several devices on the list also have rapid charging capability to charge the battery to as high as 50% capacity in only 15 minutes. The top five devices for battery life in order starts with the Motorola Droid Turbo. The Droid Turbo promises over 24 hours of talk time, lacks a removable battery, and has rapid charging. It can charge wirelessly via Qi tech and the battery is a 3,900 mAh unit.

The next device on the list is the Galaxy S6 Active with over 24 hours of battery life, a non-removable battery, rapid charging, and Qi/PMA wireless charging. Its battery has 3,500 mAh of capacity. Number three on the list is the Galaxy Note 4 with over 24 hours of talk, a removable battery, rapid charging, no wireless charging, and 3220 mAh of capacity.

Number four is the Droid Turbo 2 boasting over 24 hours of talk, a non-removable battery, rapid charging, Qi/PMA wireless charging and a 3760 mAh battery. It's interesting that the Droid Turbo 2 has the second largest battery but ranks fourth on the list for battery life. The final device is the Galaxy S5 with over 20 hours of battery life, a removable battery, no quick charging, no wireless charging, and 2800 mAh of capacity under the hood. Since these phones all have big batteries, they also tend to be thicker devices. Thinner phones have less runtime per charge.
