Command & Conquer and Red Alert are being remastered in 4K

Those of you who spent days on end playing the original Command & Conquer or Red Alert back in the 1990s might want to get ready to do it all over again. Electronic Arts has announced that it's remastering both Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert, bringing those two classic strategy games into the modern era. Today, the company shared the first details on what fans can expect from these remasters.

Electronic Arts has tapped Petroglyph Games to handle the development duties on what it calls the C&C Remastered Collection. Fans of the originals will probably be pretty excited to hear that, as Petroglyph is comprised of many of the same people who worked at Westwood Studios before it was shut down in 2003. Westwood, of course, was the company responsible for the Command & Conquer series up through 2002's Renegade.

Specifically, some of the people who will be returning for these remasters are Joe Bostic, Steve Tall, Mike Legg, and Frank Klepacki. Petroglyph will be assisted by Lemon Sky Studio in remastering these two games, and when everything is said and done, both Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert will be playable in 4K.

We'll also see the expansions for these games remastered as well. For the original Command & Conquer, we'll be getting a remastered version of Covert Operations, while Red Alert will be joined by Counterstrike and Aftermath. They'll all be offered in one collection, so you'll definitely be getting a lot of game for your money. In an announcement on EA's website, the company even assures that there won't be any microtransactions in this collection.

While it's kind of a shame that "no microtransactions" has become a selling point worth mentioning these days, we're nonetheless happy to hear that. There's no release date for the C&C Remastered Collection yet, and EA notes in today's announcement that development hasn't even started yet. The developers will keep collecting feedback from fans as development begins and eventually progresses, so here's hoping that Petroglyph and Lemon Sky can give the fans what they want.
