Chromecast has officially returned to Amazon

In a move that's been a long time coming, Chromecasts are finally available through Amazon's store once again. This ends a three-year Chromecast drought on Amazon, which was the result of a long-running feud between the two companies. While the hatchet probably hasn't been buried entirely, it seems that the two companies are beginning to put their differences behind them.

Chromecasts initially disappeared from Amazon back in 2015. Apple TV listings were pulled at the same time, with Amazon claiming the decision was made because of a lack of Prime Video support on both devices. Fast forward two years later, to the end of 2017, and Amazon announced that it would begin selling Chromecasts and Apple TVs once more.

It's been almost a year to the day since that announcement was made, and throughout most of 2018, Amazon's Chromecast listings simply sat there with a "currently unavailable" flag. That all changed recently – if not today – with Android Police noticing that both the Chromecast Ultra and third-generation Chromecast can now be purchased. Since they're fulfilled by Amazon, they even qualify for Prime shipping.

Obviously, Amazon would rather you buy its own streaming devices, but for those who are committed to getting a Chromecast, selling it to them and taking a cut is likely a nice consolation. Perhaps now that Chromecasts can actually be purchased through Amazon, we'll see the feud between the two wind down entirely?

In any case, if you've been in the market for a Chromecast and you're a Prime subscriber, this seems like a good time to buy. Amazon has the third-generation Chromecast listed at $35.00 and the Chromecast Ultra listed at $69.00, which is the same price both usually sell for through Google's own store.
