Chevy crams 6.2L Supercharged Z06 engine into '70 Camaro

Chevrolet has built a very cool restomod for SEMA 2015 that started life as a classic 1970 Camaro. Rather than stick with the engine that came with that car stock, Chevrolet crammed a high power crate engine under the hood. That crate engine is the supercharged LT4 that is found under the hood of a Corvette Z06.

The engine makes 650hp and 650 lb-ft of torque and is offered in dry-sump and wet-sump models. The availability of the crate engine gives builders the ability to use modern high-tech engines in their build projects.

This Camaro uses the wet-sump kit and has AC and front-end drive units. The LT4 crate engine is backed up by a T-56 Super Magnum six-speed transmission. Chevy also upgraded the chassis and suspension on the classic Camaro to handle the power. The front has coilovers and a rack and pinion steering system.

The rear has a four-link suspension with coilovers. The car rides on 19-inch polished aluminum wheels and has Z06 front and rear disc brakes. Other features include LED headlights and taillights. The interior is stock looking with new gauges that work with the electronics in the new drive train. Chevy added a six-point roll cage for protection.
