CES 2006 Exclusive Coverage of DualCor cPC Handtop PC

In January we told you about a new product and promised an interview with Steven Handley, President and CEO of DualCor Technologies, Inc.. Well, the long-awaited time is here. We finally have the interview and have gotten some great new information for you on the new DualCor Handtop cPC.
When asked to explain the DualCor cPC, Steve replied, "The DualCor cPC is a revolutionary concept in computing. What we have accomplished is the ability to take two processors and two operating systems and put them into a small ultra-portable handtop format."
Some might ask why you would want two processors and two operating systems. Steve explained. "The reason for this particular type of invention is that we allow the user a full XP XE6 experience complete with a 1.5GHz processor, a 40GB harddrive, and 1GB of DPR2 RAM. That configuration is more powerful than 80% of the desktops employed in America today."
He went on to say, "However, the key challenge with mobility in today's mobile enterprise knowledge order is the battery life that they have to suffer through on most XP only devices. And also the inconvenience of not having instant access to their media, pin and other types of contact information."
The new DualCor cPC does just that. It uses standard Microsoft Office that will run any application that is x86, and 100% out-of-the-box Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2000.
What Makes the cPC Tick?
The DualCor cPC is extremely fast because it incorporates another processor and operating system – Windows Mobile 5.0. This is from the family of systems which include: Pocket PC, Pocket PC Phone Edition and Smart Phone. This baby has a Via C-7 processor, and Intel PXA263. The Windows side has 128MB SDRAM, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM, 1 GB NAND Flash memory, and in addition shares a 40GB harddrive with Windows XP. This makes 41GB of storage which is over 100 times the size of any of the competition.
It features Instant-On, Always-On, Always connected power never seen before in a handheld. It is fairly easy to take along at only 1.1 pounds and measuring 16.3 x 8.3 x 3cm.
This system allows you to switch back and forth between Windows Mobile 5 and Windows XP at the touch of a stylus. This allows you to run any computer application even when you are on the go.
It has a resistive shared touchscreen display (5" 800x600) that is the brightest available on the market with over 200 nits of luminescence as compared to the 40 or 50 on other devices. The screen is touch-sensitive to work with a stylus, but the cPC also features a flat joystick-like mouse control so you can work with either environment.
The DualCor cPC has two-USB 2.0 Type A Hi-Speed 2ports and a mini-VGA port to connect to large monitors or a projector at a resolution of 1600x1200. It also has a USB Type B port for a mass storage device, and CompactFlash II slot into which you can connect a GPS, phone, caller ID, barcoder, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth dongles and/or cards. It will also connect with a stereo headset and telephone headset.
The internal battery will give you 12 hours of battery life. You can get literally hundreds of hours in standby mode, and 3-8 hours of continuous usage.
It has a built in speaker and microphone.
DualCor cPC combines the power of a desktop PC, the instant-on convenience of a PDA and the always-connected functionality of a cell phone. It is the first all-in-one mobile device to concurrently run Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 and Windows Mobile 5.0. Both processors take separate partitions of the machine's 1GB of DDR 2 SDRAM and 1GB of NAND Flash but share the 40GB hard drive, allowing documents created by one OS to be accessed by the other. There's a shared folder so you can move files between XP and Windows Mobile transparently. Also, the cPC is designed to synchronize your Outlook data in Windows XP with the Mobile 5.0 system to take advantage of the instant on features of Windows Mobile.
The DualCor cPC is expected to list at about $1500 USD and should be available March 2006.
Accessories
One of the greatest add-on features is the External Battery Pack which will give you up to 10 days of battery life.
There is a keyboard that mounts on the back of the cPC and folds to approximately the same size. The keyboard also has a pointing stick built-in so you can use the cPC just like a miniature laptop.
