Canon XA35 and XA30 camcorders utilize HD CMOS PROSensor

Canon has announced a pair of new digital video cameras that are aimed directly at professional videographers called the XA35 and XA30. Both of the cameras use the new HD CMOS PROSensor. That new sensor makes both cameras portable and capable of capturing high-quality video in low light usage scenarios.

Both cameras have wireless connectivity to make it easy to upload files to workstations for edition and sharing. Both of the camcorders have a Canon 20x HD optical zoom lens. The CMOS PROSensor promises low-luminance noise of +3dB for improved low-light image capture.

Canon fits the cameras with new video recording modes with Highlight Priority that records with accurate tonal gradations, colors, and sharpness in the mid to high-brightness ranges. The other new mode is Wide DR that delivers expanded dynamic range. The camcorders weigh only 2.6 pounds including the battery for portability.

The handles on both cameras are detachable and they both use Canon DIGIC DV4 Image Processing and Intelligent Optical Image Stabilization. Video is stored in dual SD cards and is recordable to AVCHD and MP4. The difference in the two is that the XA35 has a HD/SD-SDI output. Both of the cameras will launch at the end of this month with the XA35 selling for $2999 and the XA30 selling for $2499.
