Canon Eos M2 mirrorless camera gets official

A new digital camera from Canon has been making the rounds in the rumor mill for a while. The camera has now been officially announced in Japan and it is called the Canon Eos M2. The camera is a mirrorless unit with a small compact size promising high quality images.

Canon says that the Eos M2 inherits some of the features from the concept camera called the Eos M unveiled back in 2012. The M2 is a single-lens digital reflex camera that features integrated wireless networking and is about 8% smaller in volume than previous models. The camera features hybrid CMOS AF II enabling fast focusing over a wider area of the shooting screen.

The camera features one-shot AF and Live AF multi-point auto focus. The image sensor of the camera is an APS-C size CMOS sensor and the camera uses the DIGIC 5 video engine. The camera has an ISO range up to ISO25600 when extended. It can also shoot bursts in full resolution at 4.6 frames per second.

The integrated WiFi functionality allows the camera to connect to a smartphone to perform remote operations. Apps are available for iOS and Android devices. The camera lens is a F3.5-5.6 IS STM EF-M 18-55mm unit.
