Cambridge Consultants show off whitespace radio at CES

There has been talk for a while now about making use of the whitespace between TV stations that is intended to prevent interference between the stations for things like mobile broadband and others. Cambridge Consultants has unveiled its plan for using the whitespace at CES.

The company has unveiled a new wireless product that can stream HD video and other content around a home using the whitespace at 600MHz. The radio the firm has developed will stream content on 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 600Mhz frequencies.

The 600Mhz bandwidth is ideal for streaming high bandwidth material because it can penetrate walls and has good range. The radio will also identify any broadcasts already using the spectrum and avoid them to prevent interference.
