Brooklyn Nine-Nine hit sitcom gets Season 7 renewal from NBC

Hit sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been renewed for Season 7, the team has announced, guaranteeing episodes leading into 2020. The comedy series originally premiered on FOX in late 2013, earning multiple awards during its multi-year run on the network. Unfortunately, FOX decided to cancel the show last year, but NBC picked it up soon after.

Despite its consistently high viewer ratings, FOX made the decision to cancel Brooklyn Nine-Nine in May 2018 after five seasons. Though the show didn't have a particularly wide audience, it does enjoy a solid fan base that was very vocal following the cancellation announcement.

Word surfaced soon after that multiple other networks and companies were eyeing the series; at the time, rumor had it that streaming service Hulu was a potential savior. Within a day, new reports claimed that TBS, Hulu, and Netflix had all passed on the opportunity, leaving the series' future in limbo.

It didn't take long for NBC to nab the show, however, keeping it alive for the 2019 season. Following its first season on NBC, the network has decided to renew it for another, marking its second season on NBC and seventh overall. The show is produced by Universal Television.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, and a number of other cast members. The show revolves around Brooklyn's 99th Precinct, its talented (and immature) detective Jake Peralta, and friction with his new commanding officer Captain Raymond Holt.
