Borderlands 3 PAX East reveal could bring some surprises

Borderlands fans might want to pay special attention to PAX East when it rolls around at the end of the month. PAX East organizers have confirmed that Gearbox will be there to make "never-before seen reveals," which is leading to speculation that the company will finally announce Borderlands 3. Gearbox will make these announcements during a main theater show on the first day of PAX East, so whatever it's bringing to the convention, it's going to be big.

Obviously, there's no hard confirmation that the stuff Gearbox reveals at PAX East will include Borderlands 3, but the timing is definitely right. The last time we saw a Borderlands game was in 2015 with The Handsome Collection, which was merely a compilation release. For the last actual new release, we need to go back to 2014 – five years ago – when both Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Tales from the Borderlands launched.

"This is your opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at Gearbox Software and Gearbox Publishing, along with the latest news and updates from the makers of Borderlands, Battleborn, Brothers in Arms, and more!" the event page for Gearbox's main theater show says. "We will have never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises, so don't miss out!"

That doesn't really give us any concrete details about what to expect, but keep in mind that a new Borderlands project entered production back in 2016. Assuming that project is Borderlands 3 – as many of us suspect it is – then it's probably ready for at least a teaser by now. Gearbox's show will happen at 2:00 PM Eastern on March 28, so we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed as we wait for that date to roll around.

It's been almost ten years since the first Borderlands launched, and seven since Borderlands 2. It'll certainly be interesting to see how Borderlands has changed in the time between then and now, especially with the rise of other loot shooters like Destiny. We'll be keeping an ear to the ground for more, so stay tuned.
