BMW Announces iPad and iPod-Out Connectivity, Apple Interface in New Models

There's a lot of ways for drivers to get entertained now-a-days. Infotainment centers, with the ability to not only give you your GPS-based location, but also play your favorite artists, they are certainly getting far more advanced. But, the systems can be all over the place. Learning a new interface from one car to another, or from your portable media player to your car, for example, and be pretty hectic. But it looks like BMW wants to change all of that, by utilizing an interface that most everyone enjoys right now.

BMW is calling it "Original BMW Accessories — BMW Carrier for Apple iPad Office Mode." You connect your iPad through the dock-connector, or Bluetooth if you so desire. And then you can navigate to whatever you need from the iDrive, which is a software feature that will look like Front Row, or cover flow of the album artwork. However, if you have an older iDrive system, BMW has said that there won't be any upgrade in line for your car. So you'll just have to upgrade.

The iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4; as well as the iPod Touch 2nd and 3rd generations will be supported. As you can see from the image above, BMW is obviously taking the integration of your iDevice and your BMW to the next level, and infotainment systems will probably only get better because of it.
