BlizzCon 2018 might have a big Diablo announcement

BlizzCon 2018 kicks off in just a few weeks, and we're expecting big announcements for a least a few of Blizzard's franchises. Diablo in particular is due for something new, as the series skipped BlizzCon 2017 entirely. As it turns out, Diablo might be getting the biggest reveal of them all if the BlizzCon 2018 schedule is anything to go on.

Blizzard recently revealed the full BlizzCon schedule, and it shows that the company will host a panel called "Diablo: What's Next" right after the opening ceremony wraps up. This Diablo panel will take place on the main BlizzCon stage, and the fact that it immediately follows the opening ceremony suggests that whatever Blizzard reveals about Diablo, it's going to be big.

For most of us, our minds immediately jump to Diablo 4. It's been more than six years since Diablo 3 was released, so the timing for a new game would certainly be right. The fact that Blizzard didn't have anything to say about the franchise at BlizzCon 2017 suggests that Diablo 3 is winding down as well, lending even more confidence to the notion that this announcement could be Diablo 4.

It's also possible – though this is pure speculation on my part – that Blizzard will announce an HD remaster of Diablo 2. Diablo 2 is seen as the high point of the series, and with Blizzard recently releasing StarCraft Remastered, a re-release of Diablo 2 definitely wouldn't be out of the question.

We'll find out soon enough. BlizzCon 2018 is scheduled to begin at 2PM Eastern on Friday, November 2. The Diablo: What's Next panel, on the other hand, will begin at 3:30PM Eastern on the Mythic stage, but unlike the opening ceremony, you won't be able to watch the panel unless you've got a BlizzCon virtual ticket. There are some tempting perks being offered with the virtual ticket, so if this panel has piqued your interest, it might be worth a buy.
