Blizzard gives us a disturbing look at Sigma, Overwatch's next hero

After making something of a bombshell announcement just a few days ago, it's back to business as usual this week for Overwatch. Blizzard has revealed the next character for its team-based shooter, and the company did so in one of the most unsettling ways possible. The new character's name is Sigma, and he's a scientist who can manipulate gravity.

Sigma's experimentation with gravity and black holes seems to have had some negative effects on his mental state, which is made clear by the teaser trailer Blizzard shared today. Sigma appears to be a pretty unstable person, and in the YouTube description for the teaser, Blizzard explains that he's "unaware he's been turning into a living weapon" as he seeks to uncover the secrets of the universe.

That's all we're getting for now – though the trailer does end with a look at Sigma's in-game model, details about his capabilities aren't available yet. It probably won't be long before those are published to the official Overwatch website, so we'll look forward to learning more about him later in the week.

Last week, Blizzard announced that it'll soon be changing the way players queue up for Quick Play and Competitive matches in Overwatch. Beginning with season 18 on September 1st, Overwatch will introduce a new Role Queue, which will allow players to queue up as their preferred class – tank, damage, or support – and lock team compositions at two players per role.

Needless to say, that announcement has sparked a lot of conversation in the days since it was made, but the good news is that Role Queue will be going through a good amount of testing before it's live for everyone – not only is the queue available on the PTR now, but there will be a two-week test season in the live game that will begin on August 13th. We'll keep an eye out for more news on Sigma, so stay tuned for that.
