BitTorrent will launch its own live news channel on upcoming service

In mid-May, BitTorrent took the wraps off "BitTorrent Live," a planned multi-channel live video streaming platform that aims to offer content spanning many categories, including "youth culture," sports, music, tech, and news. More information on that latter category surfaced today, with a job posting revealing that BitTorrent will launch its own TV news network some time before this fall's election. The channel will be called BitTorrent News.

First spotted by Variety, the job posting seeks a News Director to join BitTorrent in San Francisco. According to this job posting, this news director will be the first member of a "team to create a tent-pole live news channel." This director will choose what news is covered, how it is covered, and will work to keep the journalists up to company standards.

The posting indicates the news channel offering is just getting underway, and there's no team in place yet. Once there is a team, though, they will be involved in some type of "day-to-day news" operation. The news channel will include things like breaking news, live streaming presentations, and will focus on topics not limited to but including "political campaigns, sporting events, tech and cultural events."

It isn't entirely clear when BitTorrent Live will launch; its website currently says that it will be available on "Apple TV, iOS, Android and Mac" soon, but no dates are provided. The company previously said that it would include a free tier with many categories of channels, but details on that are lean at this time.
