BioShock Infinite pushed back to Feb 2013

The release date of BioShock Infinite has been pushed back into 2013, with developers of the much-anticipated title Irrational Games pleading more time to finesse it "into something even more extraordinary." The company made headlines back in March when it confirmed an October release for BioShock Infinite; now, the game won't arrive until February 26, 2013. Never fear, though, says Irrational Games Ken Levine: you'll be gobsmacked by the results.

"When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing" Levine wrote on the official company blog. "Since then, we've come to realize that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary ... I won't kid you: BioShock Infinite is a very big game, and we're doing things that no one has ever done in a first-person shooter."

Exactly what those changes involve hasn't been specified, but Levine points to similar teething pains at locking down a release date for the original BioShock: making sure character design was as the artists intended, that the physics engine worked properly, and that the game environment was suitably "grimy."

Meanwhile, BioShock Infinite won't be making an appearance at gaming trade shows in the intervening months. "We are also going to hold off on showing BioShock Infinite at the big events of the summer, like E3 and Gamescom" Levine reveals. "That way, the next time you see our game, it will be essentially the product we intend to put in the box."
