BART hacked again: Police addresses leaked

Hackers have breached the San Francisco BART systems for a second time, releasing personal details of the BART police that includes home addresses, email addresses and passwords. The new attack targeted the BART Police Officers' Association, SFGate reports, though there's disagreement supposedly within Anonymous – which took responsibility for the original hack - over whether it should have been done in the first place.

A hacker identifying themselves as "Lamalin_5mg" and claiming to be a French girl who self-taught computer programming claimed it took them less than four hours to crack the BART site. However, other Anonymous participants have argued that releasing the data was a bad decision, though their motivation for that stance is unclear.

Less ambiguous is the response from the BART Police Officers' Association, which says it will be cooperating with the FBI to get the hackers caught. "These people are criminals, and we're going to forward this information to the FBI," presdient Jesse Sekhon told the paper. "These people need to be brought to justice. They can't be terrorizing people."

Sekhorn described the leak of private addresses as "very concerning" but said it had been a valuable lesson that "nothing is protected in the electronic age." The original hack was done in protest of two shootings by BART police, as well as frustrations over user data security.
