Bang & Olufsen partners with LG in OLED TV effort

Bang & Olufsen has partnered with LG Electronics to produce OLED TVs. Bang & Olufsen, of course, will be handling the audio part of things, with the company saying it will "focus on its unique competencies within design, acoustics and smart home integration within TV development." LG will be contributing its OLED technology into the mix, and the first result of the collaboration, an OLED TV, will be available next year.

The new "strategic technology partnership," as B&O calls it, came about as the result of an internal review. This move will help the company boost its long-term profitability, providing the "technological capabilities and scale" the company says it needs. Optimizations will be made to supply chain, development, production and more.

Said Bang & Olufsen CEO Tue Mantoni:

This partnership with LG will enable Bang & Olufsen to stay at the forefront of innovation in the TV category, a category which is currently undergoing significant change and which is very important to Bang & Olufsen. The partnership will address Bang & Olufsen's key challenges related to scale and complexity.

The partnership will include more than just producing TVs with B&O's audio technology — the company said in a statement that it'll also include work in the areas of "license and product bundle activities," but no further details were provided. How many TVs will be produced by the duo isn't known, nor when exactly the first TV will launch next year.
