Axiom Verge 2 headlines Switch Indie World Showcase

As promised, today Nintendo debuted a new Indie World Showcase for the Nintendo Switch. The 20-minute presentation showed us a number of games that are coming to the Switch next year (along with a couple that are available today), and while there are some familiar names on the list, there were also a number of new reveals. Chief among those reveals was Axiom Verge 2, the follow-up to one of the more popular Metroidvania titles in recent memory.Axiom Verge 2 was actually the final reveal of the Showcase, serving as Nintendo's "One More Thing." We got to see a little bit of the game in action, but it's still a long way off from release, as it isn't scheduled to launch until fall 2020. There was no talk of Axiom Verge 2 being a Switch exclusive – timed or otherwise – so it seems that we can expect this to launch on all platforms simultaneously. Check out the trailer for Axiom Verge 2 below.

Another game reveal that's sure to get a good number of people excited is Sports Story. The sequel to Golf Story, Sports Story expands on the Golf Story formula to include tennis (along with dungeons and espionage, according to the trailer). Like Golf Story, Sports Story will be an exclusive to Nintendo Switch. It currently has a release window of mid-2020.

Sports Story and Axiom Verge were joined by a number of other indie titles during Nintendo's presentation. Many of these games are launching at some point next year, but two of them – Dauntless and The Talos Principle: Deluxe Edition – are launching on the eShop today. In addition to the four games already mentioned, today's Showcase covered The Survivalists, Streets of Rage 4, Gleamlight, SkateBIRD, Bake 'n Switch, SuperMash, Sail Forth, Murder by Numbers, Liberated, Boyfriend Dungeon, Dreamscaper, and finally, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.

If you missed the broadcast earlier today, you can catch the whole show in the video embedded above. Many of these games don't have firm release dates yet, so we'll look forward to learning more about them in the months to come.
