Avatar 2 live-action filming wraps up with a sneak peek photo

The team behind the Avatar sequel has announced the completion of live-action filming for the movie. To celebrate the production milestone, a 'sneak peek' image from the set has been shared on the official Avatar Twitter account, giving fans a look at part of the mothership called the Sea Dragon. It'll still be a couple of years before the movie arrives.Avatar 2 is, of course, the sequel to the Avatar movie released in 2009. The work comes from 20th Century Fox with James Cameron once against writing, directing, and producing the film alongside Josh Friedman, Jon Landau, and others. The movie was teased a decade ago and was at one point expected to arrive in 2014.

A huge amount of work has gone into making the movie possible, however, including the development of new types of technology to make certain scenes possible. The vast amount of work meant additional years had to be added to the anticipated premiere in order to make the franchise's return to the big screen possible.

Assuming everything goes according to plan, Avatar 2 will arrive in theaters on December 21, 2021, followed by the third installment in 2023 and additional movies in 2025 and 2027. The sequel will return to the character Jake Sully in his family life on the alien planet of Pandora. Viewers will once again see the RDA invade the planet 12 years after Sully's initial arrival.

Though we don't yet have an official trailer or other materials from the movie, we did get a look behind the scenes on Sunday when the team shared an image of the Sea Dragon mothership on Twitter:
