ASUS ROG G501 gaming laptop unveiled

ASUS has introduced a couple of refreshed gaming laptops, as well as one that is brand new: the ASUS Republic of Gamers G501 notebook. This machine has the looks gamers have come to expect from a tailored laptop — black with red trimming — but more importantly the hardware needed to play today's games. The machine features a 15.6-inch IPS matte display with a high 3840 x 2160 resolution, something that is joined by ample storage and memory, a powerful processor, and more.

Under the G501's hood lies an Intel Core i7-4720HQ 2.6GHz to 3.6GHz processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5 GPU, and 16GB of memory. Storage comes in the form of 512GB PCIe x4 SSD. Ports, meanwhile, include a Thunderbolt port, a trio of USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, and an SD card reader. Both Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11ac Wi-Fi join those.

Rounding out the specs is a 96Wh battery, a weight of a little over 4.5lbs, and dimensions that come in at 15.07 x 10.04 x 0.81-inches. Some features handy for gamers include Hyper Cool tech, including a pair of fans, that ensure the machine and its various hardware doesn't get too hot.

All in all, the specs make for a solid gaming laptop, and a nice addition to ASUS ROG's G-series gaming laptop lineup. The G501 is priced at $1,999 USD, which makes it more expense than both of the new refreshed G-series machines (G751 and the G551).
