ASUS outs wired and wireless charging docks for Nexus 7 2013

ASUS has just unveiled a new duo of accessories for the 2013 Nexus 7. Aside from a multi-functional dock, a new Wireless Charging Stand is now also available for owners who would rather not have to buy the wireless dock designed for the Nexus 5.

When Google's Nexus 5 was first announced, a wireless charging station was also unveiled for the smartphone. While it also officially supported the Nexus 7 2013, the shape and size was less than ideal for the 7-inch tablet. Now ASUS is making available an accessory that was designed with the Nexus 7 in mind.

Unlike the Nexus 5 wireless charging dock, the ASUS PW100 Wireless Charging Stand sports a pyramid shape, keeping the tablet propped upright at a 60-degree angle. But having no wires involved, users can freely set the tablet to either portrait or landscape orientation. Best of all, it uses the Qi Wireless Charging standard so it can also be used by other devices that support the standard.

In contrast, the wired ASUS Dock is built specifically for the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 7 only. Although it doesn't afford the same free placement offered by the wireless station, the dock supports both portrait and landscape orientations as well. Furthermore, it can even hook up to a TV via an HDMI cable for watching 1080p videos. It is also fixed at a 60-degree angle to make the tablet usable and viewable even when docked.

ASUS hasn't disclosed yet exact availability details of docks, but both the PW100 Wireless Charging Station and the ASUS Dock for Nexus 7 can be purchased from Amazon and some retailers. It will cost you a bit as it the dock is priced at $49.99 while the wireless option has an $89.99 price tag.
