ARCHOS smartphones bring Mediatek to MWC 2015

A number of new ARCHOS smartphones are headed to Mobile World Congress 2015, each of them with MediaTek quad-core processors and relatively low price points. This is not the first time ARCHOS has released smartphones at this time of year – they have the last several years running, in fact. It is the first time they're bringing three phones with Android 4.4 KitKat. They're all coming with displays larger than 5-inches, as well – so that age of small-screen smartphones is pretty much over for this brand.

Three devices are being released, each of them with a number and a tag title. ARCHOS 52 Platinum is the smallest of the three, then there's the ARCHOS 59 Xenon and the ARCHOS 62 Xenon.

Every model here comes with a Mediatek MT6582 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. They've all got 1GB of RAM, as well, and 8GB of internal storage. Each of the three devices has a microSD card slot for storage expansion as well as dual-SIM capabilities. Each unit works with 2G/3G/H+ connectivity as well.

Connections also run on Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, and GPS. The smallest device, ARCHOS 52, has a 5.25-inch IPS display at 1280 x 720 pixels strong. The ARCHOS 59 Xenon has a 5.9-inch IPS display with 1280 x 720 pixels. The 62 Xenon has a 6.27-inch IPS display with 1280 x 720 pixels across it.

The smaller two cameras have 2-megapixel cameras up front while the larger has a 5-megapixel camera up front. All three cameras have 8-megapixel cameras at their back.

These devices will cost $145, $158, and $170 respectively. We'll see them up close at MWC 2015 this next week.
