Apple's iPhone 8 announcement tipped for September 12

Apple will officially announce the iPhone 8 on September 12, according to a new report, and that means sales will likely start the week after. Though not yet confirmed by Apple, which still hasn't sent out invitations to its September event, the date is one of two likely days in which the announcement would be made. Some have also speculated that Apple could hold its event on September 5.

The information comes from French website Mac4Ever, which says it received word from sources indicated to be from wireless companies. The telecom companies, which are advised of the dates ahead of time, were supposedly informed by Apple that the latest round of iPhones will be introduced on September 12, a Tuesday per the company's trend.

The event will supposedly take place at 9AM, and assuming all leaks up to this point are mostly correct, will involve Apple taking the wraps off three different iPhone models: The iPhone 7s, the iPhone 7s Plus, and the highly anticipated iPhone 8 (which may sport an entirely different name).

Assuming that Apple follows its usual trend, a September 12 launch date would likely mean the iPhone pre-orders would start on September 15, a Friday, followed by sales starting on September 22. Apple is also expected to announce a new version of the Apple Watch, one that may have LTE support, as well as a new version of the Apple TV that includes 4K UHD support.

Rumors about the upcoming anniversary edition iPhone have been all over the place. Most recently, we saw some alleged dummy units appear in a video showing two standard black/silver units, plus one pinkish version that is supposedly going to be called 'Blush Pink.' The iPhone 8 is expected to feature an OLED edge-to-edge display, wireless charging, and more. Check out the SlashGear Apple Hub for all the leaks!
