Apple will repair your blurry iPhone 6 Plus camera
If your iPhone 6 Plus photos have always looked a little less crisp than you expected, it might not be your eyes. Apple has confirmed that a small batch of its phablet-sized smartphone have a defective component, which has led to blurry shots with the iSight camera. The good news is that, since Apple is taking the blame, it's also paying for the affected cameras to be swapped out for working replacements.
"Apple has determined that, in a small percentage of iPhone 6 Plus devices, the iSight camera has a component that may fail causing your photos to look blurry," the company said of the new scheme. "The affected units fall into a limited serial number range and were sold primarily between September 2014 and January 2015."
Apple says that only a relatively small number of handsets are affected by the issue, and has set up a serial number checking system to figure out if yours is one such device.
If it is, Apple will check it over and then arrange for a repair, either at one of its own retail locations, through an authorized service provider, or by sending it away to technical support.
The repair won't affect the standard warranty, however, and the program covers cameras from three years after the iPhone 6 Plus' first retail sale. Also worth bearing in mind is the current condition of the smartphone in general.
That's because, Apple says, other hardware issues – a cracked screen, perhaps – might make replacing the camera more tricky, and as such they'll "need to be resolved prior to service." Doing so might incur a cost.
Meanwhile, all iPhone-loving eyes are on September 9, believed to be the day when Apple will announce its revamped smartphones. Likely to be the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, they're expected to include Force Touch capable displays among other improvements.
