Apple will open its first South Korean retail store

Apple is striking back at Samsung by officially entering its homeland. The iPhone maker has confirmed that it will be opening its first retail store in South Korea, with the location even said to be near Samsung's headquarters in the city of Seoul. "We're excited about opening our first Apple Store in Korea, one of the world's economic centers and a leader in telecommunication and technology, with a vibrant K-culture," the company said in a statement.

The exact location of the store and its scheduled opening weren't revealed, however Apple is already hiring with job listings on their website including Genius bar and store leader positions. So if you've ever wanted to sell iPhones and MacBooks in South Korea, now's your chance!

With one of the largest economies in Asia, it's hard to believe Apple doesn't already have a retail presence in South Korea, but it's also a sign of just how well Samsung has dominated its home turf. Before this, Apple users in the country have had to get by with just two certified resellers. Or, you know, just buy online.

According to Korea's own Yonhap News Agency, construction for the store has already begun in the up-scale Gangnam district of Seoul. The 6,000-square-foot location is said to be made up of three floors, with two below ground level, and should be completed by the end of November.
