Apple TV app heads to Roku as Apple prepares for November's big launch

We're quickly closing in on the launch of Apple TV+, and in preparation of that, Apple is rolling out its app to platforms beyond its own. Roku has announced that the Apple TV app is available on its platform beginning today. Those who download it will be able to use that app to access Apple TV+ when it launches on November 1st.

For now, though, the Apple TV app will be a vehicle for Apple TV channels and serve as a way for users to stream movies and TV shows they've purchased through iTunes. The Apple TV app is getting a rather wide roll out, as it's launching in a number of regions including Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, France, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, the Republic of Ireland, the UK, and the US.

If there's been a theme to Apple's 2019, it's "subscription services." Apple has announced and subsequently launched a variety of subscription services throughout the year, including Apple Arcade, Apple News+, and soon, Apple TV+.

One of its riskier endeavors is certainly Apple TV+, which sees Apple officially entering a rather crowded market. With competitors like Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and soon Disney all pumping out original content for their respective streaming services, Apple definitely has its work cut out for it if it wants to succeed in this space.

With all that in mind, it comes as little shock to see Apple launching its Apple TV app on platforms outside of the ones in its ecosystem. Apple TV+ launches on November 1st for $4.99 per month, and that price could be its edge against its more established competition. We will see soon enough, but while we wait, those of you with a Roku device can find the Apple TV app in the Roku Channel Store.
