Apple rejecting apps with Dropbox functionality

Apple famously doesn't allow apps to have links to external subscriptions or purchases, instead requiring developers to adhere to the in-app purchasing system. That way, Apple can take its 30% cut, and all would be right with the world. Is Dropbox starting to face the same problem? Developers are reporting that their apps are being rejected for including Dropbox functionality.

Currently, if a third party app is using the Dropbox SDK, it kicks the user over to a site for authentication. However, the same page also contains a link that allows users to create new accounts, something that Apple is frowning on. While Dropbox at first removed the link to account creation via the desktop site, apps are still being rejected from the App Store.

In the meantime, Dropbox has pushed out a new SDK that removes account creation, and the company says that it's "working with Apple to come up with a solution that still provides an elegant user experience." It does raise questions yet again about Apple's stance on the issue, but at the end of the day, they make the rules.
