Apple iPod touch 2G: Hands-On Photos & Video

It might not have had the full makeover that the new iPod nano received, but the second-generation iPod touch is still no slouch.  Arguably with less that needed fixing, Apple made some selective tweaks to both hardware and software that, while not quite matching the rumors, nonetheless keep the iPod touch ahead of the game.  Our hands-on time with the PMP certainly convinced us of that.More photos, video and hands-on feedback after the cut

At 4.3 x 2.4 x 0.33-inches (110 x 61.8 x 8.5mm), and with its iPhone 3G style casing, the new touch feels even slimmer than the original (even though it's officially not, by 0.5mm).  The tapered edges do the same job of convincing your fingers that the device is even more wafer-like.  As for the new built-in speaker, even without an ugly grill or perforations it sounds decent enough – certainly capable of annoying everyone else around you on a bus or train.

The volume controls are identical to those on the iPhone 3G, only in black not shiny silver, with the same clicky feel.  Meanwhile the WiFi antenna is less obtrusive.  As for the software, we didn't have a chance to try out the Nike+ receiver, but it's all just as usable as before.

The new iPod touch is available to order now, in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities, priced at $229, $299 and $399 respectively.
