Apple details iPad 3's new iSight camera

Apple revealed that the next-gen iPad will feature an updated iSight camera with a 5-megapixel backside illuminated sensor, 5-element lens, IR filter, and ISP built into the A5X chip. Although it's not an 8-megapixel sensor as some might have hoped, the upgraded optics, which are similar to what's on the iPhone 4S should provide the more than satisfying image quality.

The new camera setup will now also support 1080p video recording as many have suspected. You can now take great pictures and video using the new iPad, complete with auto-exposure, auto-focus, white balance, face detection, and image stabilization software.

As for video recording, besides 1080p support, which will be perfect for the new Retina-like display, there's also video stabilization along with temporal noise reduction
