Apex Legends solo mode limited to 2 weeks: Should you rage?

From the start, Apex Legends has been a battle royale game that doesn't really follow a lot of the battle royale conventions. For starters, there's only one game mode that sees you partnering up with two other people to form a team of three. Other battle royales, such as Fortnite and PUBG, offer a variety of modes centered around solo, duos, and 4-man teams.

Support for other game modes is something that a fair portion of the playerbase would like to see, but ever since the start, Apex Legends has been all about the three-man team. That's all about to change, as Respawn has announced that a solo mode is coming to the game. The mode arrives on August 13th, precisely one week from today.

What of that catch mentioned in the title, though? Apex's solo mode won't be a permanent addition to the game. Instead, it'll be available for two weeks, remaining accessible until August 27th. Solo mode is being added as part of the Iron Crown Collection Event, and for now, that's all we know about it.

In a brief post to Reddit, Respawn Entertainment says that it will talk more about solo mode "when it's live and you've had a chance to play it." That suggests solo mode could one day be a permanent installation, but regardless of whether or not that's the case, we're left waiting until August 13th before we find out more.

It'll be interesting to see how the solo metagame shakes out in Apex Legends. Each character in the game has unique abilities, and those abilities were probably balanced with three-player teams – not solo play – in mind. In any case, we'll keep an eye out for more information on Apex Legends' solo mode and we'll update you when we know more.
