Aperture giving way to 'Photos' in OS X Yosemite

Aperture, Apple's professional photography app, is disappearing. Speaking to The Loop, Apple notes the app will be slipping into the darkness with OS X Yosemite. As they prepare a more robust Photos app, Aperture may just be redundant.

The new Photos app will also replace iPhoto, bringing a bit of stability to Apple's photographic endeavors. Rather than have a slew of apps that do one or two things, Apple is cobbling them into Photos. Their statement on the move, courtesy of The Loop:

With the introduction of the new Photos app and iCloud Photo Library, enabling you to safely store all of your photos in iCloud and access them from anywhere, there will be no new development of Aperture. When Photos for OS X ships next year, users will be able to migrate their existing Aperture libraries to Photos for OS.

Apple did note this won't affect other apps they produce, like Final Cut Pro. A smart move for Apple, having a single go-to app for all your desktop phoography needs will streamline the process. That seems to be the overarching aim with Yosemite, and it will be interesting to see just how Apple makes it all work.
