AP 6511 WallPlate wireless access point debuts from Motorola

Motorola has announced an interesting new wireless access point that is designed to be very small and unobtrusive in a room. The device is called the AP6511 802.11n WallPlate access point. The device is designed to extend WiFi access to multi-room facilities like hotels, hospitals, and offices.

Motorola claims that each access point can be installed in minutes without cost and time issues associated with other types of access point installations. The device is about the size of a deck of cards according to Motorola.

The device uses in wall CAT 5 or 6 cabling and then turns that wall ran Ethernet cable network into a wireless network for the room. Up to 25 wall plates can be deployed without an external controller. The devices can also be managed by an external Motorola RFS wireless controller for larger installations. The WallPlate adapter will ship in Q4 2010 at undisclosed pricing.
