Android Nougat update underway for Xperia Z5 line, Xperia Z3 Plus

Slowly but surely, Sony has been knocking out its Android Nougat updates. What began with the Xperia XZ and X Performance has now moved on to the Z5 family and the Xperia Z3 Plus. Sony has started the Nougat roll out to those phones, so if you don't see an OTA notification yet, you may want to manually check for updates.

Specifically, readers of the Xperia blog have shared that they're receiving Nougat updates for their Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium devices. Other readers said that they're seeing the same update for the Z3 Plus and Z3 Plus Dual. Nougat hasn't hit the Z4 tablet or the Z5 Compact yet, but it should be arriving shortly.

We know this because of Sony's leaked Nougat roadmap. That leaked way back in September and grouped the Z4 tablet with the Z5 family and the Z3 Plus when it came to Sony's Nougat roll out. Of course, the roadmap also said that these devices would all be receiving Nougat sometime in December, so obviously some things are subject to change.

Still, even with a bit of a delay, Nougat updates for these devices aren't running too far behind schedule. Thus far, Sony has been pretty good about getting Nougat on its phones, and that's especially true when you consider that Samsung is just now launching Android 7.0 on the Galaxy S7 – its flagship device. There's more on the way, too, assuming Sony doesn't deviate from that leaked roadmap further.

Some of the new features Sony highlights in its Nougat patch notes include split screen functionality, longer battery life, improvements to messaging, and a new home screen with Google Now integration. If you're not seeing the update to Nougat already, you should be seeing it soon, so just sit tight. Keep it here at SlashGear as we'll let you know when Nougat rolls out to more devices, and head down to the comments section to let us know if Android 7.0 is popping up on your Xperia phone or tablet.
