Android M release today, public in Q3 2015

This week the folks at Google have let slip that their next version of Android will be coming in the third quarter of the year. They'll be releasing the basic version of Android M Developer Preview, as it's called, as early as today. Developers will have access to Android M through the standard Android portal, while the average user will have to wait until July to get their hands on Android M, or whatever it'll be called when the time rolls around.

Several major brands have announced that they'll be bringing Android M to their devices in the immediate future. This includes the HTC One M9, HTC One M9+, and the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. We'll expect the LG G4 to get Android M sooner than later as well.

Android M will have a variety of new features coming to it in the near future including new App Permissions. This version of Android will need permissions to pop up for apps when items in app are used, instead of one big wall when the app is installed.

This version of Android will focus on simplicity and core competency. We'll see more on the deep details as soon as the developer preview is released later this afternoon. Stick around our Android portal for more!
