AMD Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850 teased ahead of Oct 22 launch

AMD has released teaser photos of its upcoming Radeon HD 6800-series graphics card, which the company claims will see an official reveal on Friday.  According to ExtremeTech, the new cards – previously known as "Northern Islands" – will be the AMD Radeon HD 6870 and AMD Radeon HD 6850; however AMD is playing coy with specifications.

That means all we have to go on are the photos of the reference cards themselves, which each have two DVI outputs, one full-size HDMI out and two Mini DisplayPort jacks for a total of five outputs.  The only other connectivity shown on the dual-width cards are the power connectors: a single six-pin port on the HD 6850 and two on the HD 6870.

The other point of note is the naming, with the 6800-series the first to lose the long-standing ATI dual-branding.  We'll be keeping an eye out for these on October 22nd.
