Amazon Alexa will soon track down your keys with just a few words

We've all been there. You're in a hurry to get out the door, and you can't find your keys. You just saw them. They were on the counter, or was it your dresser? And it's in that moment that you think about attaching some device to your key ring that will let you find them, regardless of how well-hidden they might be. Well soon, Amazon might let you find your keys just by asking where they are, out loud.

Since Amazon released their Echo last year, they have been slowly expanding the capabilities of the device. Many of these capabilities involve making purchases with the device, but that's obviously not all it can do. While they haven't made any formal announcements, it looks like they're preparing to integrate object-finding into the Echo, as well.

According to a source close to the company, Amazon is investing a large sum of money (between $250,000 and $500,000) into a company called TrackR. If you're not familiar with TrackR, they offer small Bluetooth tags that you can attach to keys, or any other small object that you might worry about losing. When you need to find them, you can use the TrackR app on your smartphone, and it will help you track down your lost item.

There's no word on when we could expect the Echo integration, but owners of the device would certainly benefit from it, when that time comes. Currently, you can buy TrackR's tags for around $30 each, or less if you buy in larger quantities.
