All-New 2018 Jeep Wrangler is official and aims to be most capable SUV ever

Jeep fans the world over have been counting the days until the all-new 2018 Wrangler went official. The new JL Wrangler was unveiled yesterday and everything you ever wanted to know is now public. Jeep says that the new Wrangler is the most capable SUV ever made and is offered with the Command-Tac and Rock-Track 4x4 systems.

The Wrangler has Dana axles, and a new Selec-Trac full-time 2-speed transfer case, Tru-Lock electric front an rear axle lockers, Trac-Lok limited slip diff and 33-inch off-road tires. Jeep says that the JL has industry-leading ground clearance, approach, breakover, and departure angles.

Wrangler drivers will be able to ford up to 30-inches or water. While the design is all new, the vehicle still looks like a Jeep. It packs round headlights and square taillights; the aerodynamics are improved without sacrificing the iconic square shape of the car. The Wrangler JL can be had on highly-equipped versions with a power folding soft top, which is a first for the line.

Two premium hard tops are offered that are lighter and easier to remove. The new Wrangler uses weight-reducing aluminum doors, hinges, hood, fenders, and windshield frame. The swing gate is made of magnesium. The reduced weight helps to boost fuel economy. The suspension is tuned for on-road handling and ride comfort without negatively impacting the off-road capability of the Wrangler.

This means the 2018 Wrangler is better to live with daily. Power comes from a new 2.0L turbo inline four as the optional engine and the standard is a 3.6L Pentastar V6 with start-stop technology. Jeep says that after "overwhelming demand" a 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 with ESS will land in 2019 as an option. The transmission offerings are a new 8-speed automatic or a six-speed manual, but word is there will be no manual with the diesel engine. Pricing is the main thing that we don't know just yet.
