Alienware m15 puts gaming heart in stylishly slim laptop

For gaming laptops, the eternal struggle seems to be finding the right balance of power and size. The components that give your laptop the power it needs to run games well oftentimes take up a lot of space, so creating a relatively thin gaming laptop can be a challenge. Alienware thinks it may have figured things out with the new m15 laptop, which is apparently the company's thinnest and lightest 15-inch laptop to date.

In its announcement today, Alienware assures that the m15's lightweight design doesn't mean a compromise on performance. When everything is all tallied up, the m15 clocks in at 0.83-inches thick, with a total weight of 4.78 pounds. That's pretty good as far as gaming laptops go, but the big question is whether or not the hardware on the inside can deliver on the promise of a powerful-yet-slim notebook.

Unfortunately for us, it's difficult to make that call at the moment. Alienware has yet to deliver a full list of specs, instead seemingly choosing to trickle-release information about the m15 as we move through October. We are learning a few details today though, with Alienware saying that the m15 will use 8th generation Intel Core processors and either an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 OC or a 1070 Max-Q GPU depending on configuration.

Alienware also says that the laptop will use the company's own Cryo-Tech 2.0 cooling system and have the option of a 90Whr battery, but aside from that, hardware details are fairly slim. We do know, however, that the laptop will feature a keyboard that boasts RGB, anti-ghosting keys, and a full numeric pad.

We'll need to wait on Alienware for the rest of the m15's specifications, but strangely, the company did reveal pricing and release date information today. The Alienware m15 will launch on October 25 and start at $1,299. It'll be available directly from Alienware's online store and from brick and mortar retailers, though its retail partners haven't been revealed just yet. Stay tuned for more.
