AIS introduces rugged Atom tablet PC

Netbooks appeal to consumers looking for a low cost and portable computer and they appeal to businesses looking to equip mobile workers on the cheap. The problem is that the typical netbook is much too fragile for some mobile workers like those in the service industry. This type of worker needs a rugged computer that can stand up to the hazards of work on the go.

AIS has announced a new ruggedized 10.4-inch Atom tablet PC that is designed for field service, factory automation, and retail service industries. The machine is basically a netbook tablet with a rugged enclosure that is certified to Military 801F shock and vibration standard. Inside the rugged chassis is an Intel Atom N270 processor.

The screen is a 10.4-inch touch screen and the system can be fitted with up to 2GB of RAM. The housing of the machine is made from Alum-Mg alloy with protective rubber seals to make the machine dust and waterproof. Options for sunlight readable screens and mobile broadband are available. The rugged 10.4-inch tablet starts at $1499.
