Aereo sold out in New York, is working to expand capacity

Aereo, which recently announced upcoming service to the Cincinnati metro region, has sold out in New York, the company confirmed on Twitter today. Word first surfaced when one individual decided to give the television service a try, only to be told it has reached its max capacity in the region and will be unavailable until expansions are made.

According to Karl Bode of DSLReports, when he tried to sign up for Aereo service in New York, he receive the following message: "Thanks for your interest in Aereo! We are currently sold out in New York." He reached out to them for information on the matter, and they emailed him the following response:

"We're fortunate that Aereo continues to experience strong growth across all our markets. Our team has been working overtime to add more capacity in our existing markets. As soon as additional capacity is added, new consumers will be notified that they can sign up and create an Aereo account."

Confirmation was then made on Twitter, as well. There's no word on when the company will be able to open its doors again, though those who want to get in when it does should probably sign up for notifications — it's not unreasonable to assume it could end up selling out again if demand is high enough.

This all follows news that the service's competitors will be taking their outcries and legal efforts all the way to the Supreme Court, which has agreed to take the case on. The ruling could be a big blow to Aereo, or an even bigger blow to the industry as a whole.
