Acer unveils Liquid Zest and Liquid Jade 2 at MWC 2016

Acer has rolled out some interesting new devices at Mobile World Congress 2016 including the Liquid Zest, Liquid Zest 4G, and Liquid Jade smartphones. The Liquid Zest and Zest 4G share most of the same hardware with the only difference being the support for 4G connectivity and sound. Both have Android 6.0 for the operating system and come in midnight black or daylight white colors.

The display is a 5-inch HD IPS unit with, 8MP f/2.0 autofocus main camera, and a 5MP wide-angle front camera. The Liquid Zest has DTS Sound Studio with the Zest 4G offering DTS HD Premium sound. Both Zest versions will be offered in Europe, Middle East, and Africa starting in April with pricing around €109 and €149 for the 4G version.

The Liquid Jade 2 is an Android device with a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED screen that supports 100% of the NTSC color gamut. The smartphone also has DTS Headphone X virtual surround sound. The main camera has 21MP resolution with fast autofocus and support for video recording in up to 4K resolution. The front camera is an 8MP unit with an 84-degree wide-angle lens and a Pause N Shoot selfie mode. The processor is a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of integrated storage.

Along with the two new smartphones, Acer has also rolled out the BYOC (Build Your Own Cloud) development for connected car, smart homes, business, and education. The car aspect is a partnership with Advanced Telematic Systems and is called OTA+. That is an open-standards solution for over-the-air updates for connected vehicles supporting data transfer, data management, secure transmission, validation, and deployment. The BYOC solution also supports digital signage and Acer's first IoT education kit with plug and play hardware and software along with tutorials to teach users how to code on smartphones.
