3DS XL SNES Edition Goes Up For Pre-Order At Amazon

A couple of months back, Nintendo revealed a new limited edition 3DS XL modeled after the Super Nintendo. In the time since then, however, Nintendo has largely gone silent on this SNES 3DS XL, likely owing to the fact that it was focused on the launch of the SNES Classic. That all changed today, as the New 3DS XL Super NES Edition went up for pre-order on Amazon.

First spotted by Wario64 over on Twitter, this 3DS XL will come with a price tag of $199.99 – actually a little bit cheaper than other New 3DS XL models currently available on Amazon. It'll also come bundled with a downloadable copy of Super Mario Kart, so between this and the SNES Classic Edition, you can really go all-in on the 16-bit nostalgia.

Wario64 shares another image that claims this New 3DS XL is an Amazon exclusive, which is something we don't see all that often. The last Amazon-exclusive 3DS was this lime green model that came packaged with Super Mario World, another classic Super NES game. Assuming that exclusivity deal is real, then you may want to get your pre-order in sooner rather than later. After all, with the word "exclusive," being thrown around, it seems safe to assume that Amazon is only going to get one shipment of these handhelds.

The listing gives the SNES 3DS XL a release date of November 27, 2017, just in time for Cyber Monday and the beginning of the holiday shopping season. Given the relative rarity of the New 3DS XL, we can probably expect it to sell out before launch day, though, so keep that in mind if you're planning to pick one up.

This could very well be the last limited edition 3DS XL we see launch before Nintendo begins to move away from the handle. Just last week, we received confirmation from Game Freak that Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon will be the final Pokemon games released for the 3DS line, with a shift to the Switch in store for the franchise's future. Head over to Amazon to pre-order one for yourself, and be sure to stop by the comments section to let us know if you're picking one up.
